Kalei has been doing hair for over a decade. After beauty school she began a color apprenticeship at DiPietro Todd salon in San Francisco and subsequently assisted Erik Webb (formerly of Architects and Heroes) for a short time before diving head first into being a stylist. She worked with the lovely ladies at Hair Candy Salon in San Francisco before opening her own salon called Valhalla, which she owned for 4 years. In that time she has taken many classes: Vidal Sassoon Foundations & Creative Cutting, mullets & shags with Jayne Matthews of Edo Salon, numerous color classes from Davines, Eufora, L’Oreal and Wella, as well as Davines and Kevin Murphy product knowledge classes. She is always continuing to hone her craft.
Kalei’s passion lies in the natural world: ecology, botany, geology—anything that helps us to understand how the world works, and gives us an objective lens with which to observe. She is studying Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences at Oregon State University, and hopes to one day fulfill her dream of getting paid to go camping.
If you want to talk about science, decolonization, or indigenous politics, Kalei is the stylist for you!
